shotsOctober 10: Influenza Vaccination Clinic
Flu season is approaching and once again the City of Perris Senior Center will be offering flu and pneumonia shots between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the center, 100 North D Street. The fees are $30 for influenza vaccine and $45 for the pneumonia vaccine. You can pay using Aetna, Medicare or cash. Some other medical insurance plans may also cover the cost of vaccinations.

cleaningOctober 18: City Clean Up Day
In a joint effort, the City of Perris and CR&R have scheduled a special clean up day. All Perris residents will receive a flyer with detailed info about this event. If you have questions, please call Rebecca Miranda at (951) 943-5003 ext 496.

harvest festivalOctober 25: Harvest Festival & Marionette Show
4 pm - 8:30 pm - Perris Health Clinic Parking Lot
Trick or treat and have a great time. Kids will enjoy Halloween games and activities along with the Franklin Haynes Marionettes. Parents can meet & greet local health and community services organizations or shop for holiday gifts and crafts.

The bright lights and red carpet that signify a high-end fashion show came to Perris this week as Carson Kressley, star of the television show “How to Look Good Naked” hosted the gala event which drew a crowd of about 200.

Rover, the voting booth on wheels, rolled into Perris on Oct. 9 to give Riverside County residents an early chance to cast their ballots for the presidential election as well as local races and ballot initiatives.

Perris has a new weapon in its continuing battle with graffiti
A new system that makes use of motion detectors, state-of-the-art night vision cameras, global positioning system technology and a criminal data base monitored by law enforcement is being credited with significantly reducing episodes of graffiti and vandalism in several community parks.

Marion Ashley Stadium Dedication
Heritage High School’s state-of-the-art athletic complex is now known as Marion Ashley Stadium, named last week in honor of the Riverside County supervisor who as a kid played football, baseball and soccer on fields of dirt.

Governor signs bill turning section of Highway 74 over to Perris
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed a bill authorizing Caltrans to turn over a 1.7-mile stretch of Highway 74 to Perris officials, who will then become responsible for maintaining and improving one of the major gateways into the city

Perris solar project wins prestigious award for curbing pollution, greenhouse gases
The “Solar Shine Program,” which kicked off in April 2006, is credited with cutting the city’s electrical consumption 20 percent. The project has also won several prestigious awards for the city including the Helen Putnam award and was a finalist in the international Urban Land Institute Sustainable Cities Award.

I-215 Corridor Summit
While growth has slowed in recent months, summit speakers noted that population along the I-215 corridor has risen 40 percent since 2000 and income is up by 23 percent. Perris lies right in the middle of that development.
